Blog Swap with teeth – The Q&A

Below are the answers to BTN’s questions for Jason of The OSU Beaver Football Blog. Click here to read what he asked BTN and the answers. The OSU Beaver Football Blog, like BTN is an independent perspective and they do a great job keeping The Beaver Fan Base up to date.

BTN: Your practicing on blue turf, does the team really think this will help?

BFB: I think it will help the players mentally-which is valuable. But it’s not going to cure all the problems the team has. I think it’s a nice coaching gimmick, but that is it.

BTN: How does the fan base feel about ESPN’s College Game Day showcasing the game?

BFB: It doesn’t matter. I think it is fun for BSU fans who attend the game. All the lights/camera’s, the national stage, are great, but they don’t impact the game.

BTN: I have predicted Boise State will go to the Rose Bowl and play the winner of The Civil War, how would you feel about a rematch in Pasedena?

BFB: If OSU keeps the game close and loses, then a rematch would be great but not likely. It’s going to take an act of god for OSU to go undefeated in the Pac-1o this year. ASU/UofA/UofO/Stanford look really tough. If BSU loses, I doubt they will get a bid to the Rose Bowl.

Boise State in the BCS Game????

Boise State has played great against Virginia Tech and Wyoming. But certain things have to happen before we can even think about a National Championship game. Game’s have to be won and other teams need to win their conference.

Number 1 thing that has to happen is, the Broncos have to win every game on their schedule. Wait sorry no, they have to annihilate every team on their schedule. They can’t let any games get to their head and have a game like last year against Tulsa.

Number 2 thing that has to happen is, Oregon State can only have those 2 loses to TCU, and BSU. They have to win the Pac-10, which means beating Arizona, Oregon, Stanford and USC. If they can achieve this it can help the Broncos on their journey to the BCS title game.

The Field Is Blue

This week Oregon State has resorted to painting its practice field blue, in preparation of its game versus the #3 ranked Boise State Broncos. After about 440 diluted gallons of blue paint and a donation of $110,000, the Beavers have transformed part of their practice field from green to blue.

Coach Mike Riley had this to say on his official twitter page

“Coach_Riley http://twitpic.com/2qdfo3 - Getting the practice field ready for Boise State. #gobeavs”

ESPN and ABC

It’s official – Game Day is coming to the Blue Turf! Maybe they can lighten their banter and possibly swing it to more of a pro-Boise approach versus the anti-Boise they were spewing today on their show. Lets hope so, anyway if you are a fan of Game Day you can be there for the event. Gates will open to the public at 5:30am and ESPNU begins the broadcast at 7am and ESPN at 8am. The game will be nationally televised on ABC, this will be a prime-time major network appearance for Boise State. Boise State will be going up against #25 Oregon State who is coming off a 35-28 victory over Louisville.

My outside voice

Every now and again I have to RANT! I’m really not that guy, but a few events lately have brought me to the point of sharing. I am actually putting this down on this post using my outside voice!

  1. Cable One – Cable made an announcement today and Murph’s Turf posted their comments. They say there is a half mil wanted by CBS CS to carry the seasons games and Boise State only plays in the one this year. So does that mean that Cable One will cough up $500K next year? Do they have that kind of money lying around? That answer is no. They most likely seek advertisers in the Boise market to foot the bill. Here’s the real problem; there is only about 29% of the market that watch cable and that could be a tough pill to swallow for local advertisers. In fact I was recently told by an insider at KTVB (via a twitter conversation) that the percentages for Cable, Broadcast and Satellite viewing are just about evenly split. That means roughly 60% of the Boise market will not be watching the game Saturday night. Now as I recall it was early summer that Boise State joined the MWC right? Then just what in the [bleep] has Cable One been doing? They should have been negotiating a play for this year and the years ahead. I’m sorry to the 60 or so percent of you out there that will miss the game. Shame on you Cable One! I personally am not a fan of cable, I have Dish – I got mine! And, no you can’t come over.
  2. Stadium Expansion – We have a plan right? Nope! We have a dream. There is no solid plan in place to make the architectural renderings a reality. The question I have is do we need to make it a reality? I’m a fan of Sports Talk Radio – Dan Patrick, Jim Rome and Caves and Prater. I haven’t figured out whether or not I like the new TNT, the verdict is still out. While listening to The DP Show this morning I heard a rant from the later T of TNT. I must admit he had some valid points on the future dream of an expanded stadium and the burden it may put on the Boise State program in light of the current economic system. Come up with a plan guys and put it into action. But while doing so take the time to evaluate all options. I recently visited Duke and of course I had to go to walk on the floor where the NCAA Basketball Champs play. I remember thinking it would fit inside Taco Bell Arena and still leave room to play Basketball. Lesson: It’s not the size of the facility that makes you a champion.
  3. Hostage situation with Oregon State – This week Boise State announced the hostage. The tickets remaining for Oregon State. In order to get a pair of these bad boys it will take a commitment for the season. Now I more than most understand marketing, but if you haven’t sold the allotment of season tickets by now then maybe you should read my comment number 2. Release the hostages and let the fans that may only want to attend that one game do so. If Boise handles their business in Wyoming and Oregon State handles their business with Louisville we should manage to see ESPN’s College Game Day and the beloved Kirk Herbstreit on campus next Friday and Saturday.
  4. Cleavage and Bush – First off let me be clear… I am not blah blah and I never have been blah blah. Both of these stories carry about the same weight and LC’s blah blah. WHO CARES! Really Reggie Bush gave back the Heisman because he allegedly cheated the system and allegedly took money while tarnishing the untarnished USC program? Fact: He gave back the trophy because they were coming to get it. In fact they probably crossed somewhere in route to collect and return. Now about what he did to USC. He got caught. That program has had its issues before and I’m sure they will again. Do I think what he did was right? Hell no! I think he deserved what has taken place and should suffer the consequences. Now off with the cleavage and the outfits so tight the look painted on. Sex sells right? Are you kidding me there are female reporters every bit as beautiful as Ines Sainz and they don’t look like that. If you are going to be in that profession, then be professional. This has the makings of a Cher song. That’s enough on that subject.
  5. James Madison and Style Points - This is a program that is on the rise and may soon be playing D1 ball. They played an emotionally and physically damaged Virginia Tech team. What’s great about College Football any team can beat anyone on any given Saturday. Va Tech will recover and most likely win the ACC and this will become a fluke game and a moot point. Lets move on to something news worthy shall we. Now, we are asked if we need to win with style points to get to the National Championship game. We need to win first, let the style points happen as a byproduct. In order to go undefeated we must focus on winning first and let the chips fall where they may. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Pack your bags for Pasadena and plan to watch your undefeated Broncos take on Oregon or Oregon State as the road to the Rose Bowl goes through the Civil War battleground first.
