Why is Boise State predicted to be the #1 spot when the BCS debuts next Sunday? The BCS is 1/3 Harris Poll, 1/3 USA Today Coaches Poll, and 1/3 BCS Computers. Nobody really knows exactly how the computers calculate their rankings, but  strength of schedule, quality of win, wins away and wins at home, etc, all figure into the calculations. Let’s take a quick look at the Strength of Schedule part of the equation;

Blog Swap with Rocket Nation

I had a chance to ask Brian Nowicki of Rocket Nation 5 questions about the Toledo Rockets.  Finding out about an opponent that Boise State has never faced what pretty interesting.  I also found out that Rocket Nation will soon become a rivals.com affiliate, which is also something I did not know. Below is the Q&A session.  Enjoy.

How did Toledo come up with the Name “Glass Bowl” for their Home Stadium

The city of Toledo was once known as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of glass. Glass Bowl Stadium was built in 1936 as part of the Works Progress Administration project as the country was coming out of the Great Depression. It was mostly paid for by a grant from the federal government, with the city of Toledo and the University of Toledo paying for a smaller portion of the project. The Glass Bowl Stadium name was selected to honor the city’s known popularity as the “Glass Capital of the World.”

The Field Is Blue

This week Oregon State has resorted to painting its practice field blue, in preparation of its game versus the #3 ranked Boise State Broncos. After about 440 diluted gallons of blue paint and a donation of $110,000, the Beavers have transformed part of their practice field from green to blue.

Coach Mike Riley had this to say on his official twitter page

Oregon State Tickets

I hear reports that the War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, WY is sold out for this week’s game, which sees Boise State heading into town.  Not to get ahead of ourselves, but he first Boise State Home Game is versus Oregon State on Saturday September 25th.

Individual game day tickets for Boise State Home games went on sale Sept 15th, and by the end of  day the OSU game is sold out.

By sold out I mean the only other way to get Oregon State game tickets will be to sign up for season tickets or via usual outlets such as StubHub, Ebay, Craigslist or TixxFixx.  New this year however, will be how one gets their hands on Student Tickets.

A change has come about regarding how Boise State students will be able to purchase tickets online via Bronco Web. Thats right, no more standing in long lines with 5o of your closest friends student ID and purchase a lot of Tickets to sell to non students.  I won’t bore you with the details as to when those tickets go on sale, but I will say that it will be an early day for college students looking to score a ticket to the OSU game.  The best part may be that actual fans that attend Boise State, have a better chance of getting tickets and filling up the student section.  Let’s hope for the best.  Go Broncos!!

New Boise State University Commercial with Coach Pete

Bags are Packed

I am leaving on a jet plane to New York City, a concrete jungle where dreams are made of. I can confirm this as Kyle Wilson is living proof. If last week you were following the BTN and BNP twitter accounts (if your not, you should) you would know that Nike has invited us both to cover the unveiling of the Nike Pro Combat Series Uniforms for the 2010 College Football Season.

The event is to take place Wednesday September 1, 2010 at the Skylight West Studios in New York City. The event begins at 10AM Eastern and 8PM Mountain. That day back in Boise, the Blue and Orange Store will have the Nike Pro Combat Series gear for sale. I can also assume so will the Bronco Shop.

This is a great opportunity for both Cliff and myself. It is not too often that the Blogging world gets asked to attend event like this. It would appear the other local media types will not be attending, due to ethical issue surrounding Nike providing travel accommodations. They also chose not to attend on their own dime, due to budget constraints.

The funny thing about this event is whether the local media attends or does not attend Nike will still benefit from the coverage. I certainly will be happy to provide a prospective that Brian Murphy and other local media will lack in there coverage.

Either way the event provides fans of Boise State a chance to promote the program yet again on a national stage. I plan to take as many pictures as I can possibly take, while providing as much commentary about the event.

I am due to arrive in New York on Tuesday and will get a chance to meet up with other fellow media types from the 10 schools announced for the 2010 series. For now I am I will get back to packing my bags and will keep you updated on the events over the next 2 days. Go Broncos!!
