Boise State vs TCU History Says It All

Boise State vs TCU is not your average “mid-major” showdown. Both TCU and Boise State have proven themselves on that national stage with Fiesta Bowl’s and Rose Bowl’s. Together they have taken down BCS schools like, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Virgina Tech, Clemson, Georgia, Oregon and Oregon State. Now with only one year in the Mountain West together they will face each other for what looks like the Mountain West Championship. Despite not being in a conference together, Boise State and TCU have faced each other 3 times before, all in bowl games, and twice since 2008.

WAC 2.0

When the Broncos move into the Mountain West next year it going to be just like playing the WAC just like we have the last 10 years. Playing TCU will be like the WAC’s Nevada team. Playing San Diego State is just like playing Fresno State, playing Air Force will be like playing Hawaii. Do you guys get that because after the first year the MWC isn’t going to have TCU. That next year were going to have Fresno State, Nevada, and Hawaii, It’s going to be the same thing.

If you look at the rankings they are almost the same, I will go highest ranking to lowest ranking.

  • Boise State #9- TCU #3
  • Nevada #17- **Utah #20
  • Hawaii #25- Air Force #30
  • Fresno St. #38- San Diego St. #34
  • Idaho #83- **BYU #65
  • L.A. Tech #84- Wyoming #103
  • Utah State #89- Colorado St. #107
  • New Mexico St. #115- UNLV #113
  • San Jose State #120- New Mexico #119

** MWC teams leaving for different conference next year

If you look at this you can see that almost every single team is the same. But as you know their will only be 8 teams in the conference next year. So this conference will be a little bit different but if you think about it, this conference is going to have Nevada, Fresno State, and Hawaii and to finish that year off TCU is leaving for the Big East. So Boise State is going to be playing in the WAC again, and we will be a big fish in a little pond once again.

Boise State to Jump?…Guaranteed

Boise State’s football team is one step closer to getting their fingers on that National Championship game. This team as 3 things left on their checklist to get there. 1- Beat Fresno by at least 20 points, 2- Beat Nevada by at least 7-10 points, 3- Beat the crap out of Utah State by at least 40 points. If we have this happen we are guaranteed to jump TCU.

Auburn, Oregon, and TCU have a bye week this week and BSU has 3 games in a row. TCU plays New Mexico and that is their last game. So it won’t help them at all in the polls the next week. Plus this week Boise State is the only team playing on national television on a Friday. You know what that means right, everyone gets a chance to see BSU play and show the world what we got.

TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson Spouts Off

After all of the BCS talk this past week, today was a strange detour.  During Coach Gary Patterson’s teleconference the Idaho Statesman’s Chad Crippe got a little more than he bargained for.  ”Apparently”, during the  2010 Fiesta Bowl Media Day a video was taken of a TCU player spouting off about Boise State.  This video was then presented to the Boise State players.  This did not sit well with Patterson and well it looks like he is holding a grudge.  Audio is from 1350 KFAN in Utah.  Through twitter today it is rumored the “radio guy” was none other than Jeff Caves of KTIK.

If You Expand It, Will They Come?

The Bronco’s history of scheduling the big game continues to be dark cloud looming over stadium expansion plans. Back in August, Boise State announced a plan to expand Bronco Stadium. The “plan” calls for expansion of Bronco Stadium to be completed in different phases increasing seating capacity from 33,500 to 53,000 as well as other amenities for the Football program.

Boise State Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier had this to say about expansion of Bronco Stadium

“Right now, we’re (Boise State) an outlier – plain and simple, we’ve (Boise State) got the smallest stadium of any school in the Top 25. We’ve (Boise State) got the smallest budget of any school, by far, in the Top 25. Being an outlier in that kind of situation is not a great spot to be in.”

Coupled with a win over then number 10 Va Tech, excitement surrounding expansion was at an all time high. Well that was then this is now.

Fast forward to October 7, 2010, which saw the University of Utah canceling 3 remaining games with the Bronco’s (2 games at Bronco Stadium) in order to prepare for its move to the PacTen. The cancellation was a result of Utah wanting to continue with its annual match up with the BYU Cougars.
