Originally from Birmingham currently living in London for just over a year, I started working from an incredibly young age (Child Labour) at my family restaurant, my father really instilled the value of hard work in me, never gave me any preferential treatment (Nor did he pay me). Long and unsociable hours really drove me to focus on my studies which led me to study computer science at university and a masters in cyber-security.
After graduating in 2017, I wanted to get into a cyber-security role asap. Not realising how incredibly difficult it would be to get into that market, I fell into technical support roles to build on my skills. Having worked for a large company (CGI) and an incredibly small company (Ipsotek). Oakleaf Partnership seems so far, as the best of both worlds.
In my spare time, I am currently trying to regain my piano skills, having started learning at the age of 8 but stopping at the age of 22 which inevitably led to rustiness. I enjoy all types of sport ranging from badminton to F1. I also collect rare whisky’s from around the world, with my most prized bottle being a 1991 Macallan which I brought on my 21st birthday.

Dr. Chu graduated with a bachelor of science in biomedical engineering from the University of California, Irvine. He earned a doctor of medicine from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. He completed an internal medicine residency at Los Angeles County (LAC) + USC Medical Center, serving as chief resident his final year. He completed a cardiology fellowship at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and was the chief cardiology fellow. He then returned to LAC + USC Medical Center where he completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology. Dr. Chu is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.
Away from medicine, Dr. Chu is a Disneyland enthusiast. He proposed to his wife at Disneyland Park and the couple even had an Up-themed wedding. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, trying new recipes, skiing, and indoor rock climbing. He also enjoys hosting European-style board game nights with friends and family.

The theme of our research is heterogeneous soft matter transport and design, covering topics such as complex fluid dynamics, colloid and interface science, electrokinetics, and rheology. Our research develops predictive multi-scale computational tools (e.g. particle/fluid dynamics simulations) and fundamental theory (e.g. asymptotic/scaling analyses) to address emerging NAE Grand Challenges for Engineering in these research areas, emphasizing on close collaboration with experimental groups to translate knowledge into applications. Examples of applications include enhanced oil recovery, CO2 sequestration, smart materials assembly, sustained drug delivery, engineered functional surfaces, 3D printing, adaptive micro-robots, and microfluidic energy harvesting.
