Scribe in Texas

Great experience. Bad pay. Great people. Bad pay.

First off, the pay is really bad. I was paid 10 dollars an hour at an outpatient clinic. I think those who worked for ER were paid even less. The great thing about the job is the patients you meet, the connections you build with people at your clinic, and the experiences you form. If it weren't for these things, I would've left in a heartbeat. Hours were pretty flexible but dependent on your manager and how many other scribes were hired for your location. I was standing on my feet for the whole day, but this will be dependent on your location.

Medical Scribe in New York, NY

This company is run by students

This company is run by students so they can pay the lowest possible wage yet you are worked like a dog and constantly told that you aren't good enough and if you don't improve you you will be fired. It makes a difference if you are paired with a good doctor and team but if you have a doctor that is difficult to work for there's little you can do. You have no control over who you are paired with and the interview process takes a long time. I was told to take New York sick days for time that I needed off including doctors appointments.

Telescribe in Remote

Good for the experience, terrible for everything else

This job is great for the experience when studying a medical related profession as you learn so much from doctors and when studying for the final exam. That being said, everything else is awful. The pay is very low with no room for much advancement, and when doctor's take a vacation you lose out on days worth of work. Most doctors seem friendly at first but tear you apart as you continue, and do not provide any help. Management is awful and are terrible at responses. They say the job has great flexibility but it does not, they force you to learn additional specialties and take on shifts that do not comply with your schedule.

Emergency Department Scribe in Nevada

Good for getting experience, terrible pay

Lots of training, for low pay and a job that can be stressful at times. From coworkers, I've even heard they're lowering the pay for new recruits when the pay is already pretty bad.

Certified Scribe Trainer in Indianapolis, IN

Low pay, high stress

The only reason someone should take this job is if they are planning to attend medical school or PA school or something along those lines. You do learn a lot, and it looks good on applications, but you are paid basically nothing, and there are no almost no benefits.

What advice would you give the CEO of ScribeAmerica about how to improve it?

March 26, 2020

Please offer scribes merit-based rewards in terms of increasing both paid-vacation time and salary pay. Additionally, please also increase communication with regional managers and chief scribes to individual locations, because due to these two tiers of division, there is often a huge disconnect in terms of policy changes and “giving scribes a voice” to discuss things with HR. Additionally given both the health exposure risks and the daily stress of most scribes’ daily work life, I believe they should be offered similar resources such as an employee health nurse contact and potentially an online mental health counselor. Because we are not direct employees of either the hospital or clinical practice where we work, it may be difficult to seek treatment for work-related exposures that are specific to scribe. Finally, I also believe all employees, regardless of their rank in the company or salary, should receive some form of annual incentive either in terms of a bonus during the holiday times, just for their hard work with the company. Overall, I believe that the implementation of these changes will foreword produce a happier work place environment for all employees, and the economic and package incentives mentioned prior that scribes may gain as their time progresses may further increase the time that scribes choose to work for scribeamerica.

How are the working hours at ScribeAmerica?

December 10, 2018

It varies, can be very unpredictable. I've done 6, 9, and 12 hour shifts. Scribe America uses a scheduling model where usually 2/4 weeks you get lots of hours and the other 2 weeks you barely get any at all.

What questions did they ask during your interview at ScribeAmerica?

June 21, 2019

My interview was held over video chat, 30 minutes in length. Includes a typing test - they email you the link to a test of their choosing and you screenshot and send back your test results. They are looking for at least 60-65 wpm, 75 + is considered impressive. Some introductory questions about your schedule, iflexibility, availability, future vacation time, future goals, willingness to commute far (if applicable), do you want full time or part time, could you work weekends if needed, ect. Situational based questions, such as: Biggest challenges A time you made a mistake at work How would you react in an emergency One random question on a medical vocab word

How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at ScribeAmerica? What are the steps along the way?

March 26, 2019

Was fairly quick after immunization record update. Interview, testing, training, testing, shadowing, and shift work.

What is the interview process like at ScribeAmerica?

July 2, 2019

My interview was 50% job orientation, 50% interview. A powerpoint about ScribeAmerica and a scribe's role, followed by a few quick questions about availability, commitment, and future plans. I wasn't asked any "what if's," and sort of felt like the interview was just to make sure I was a functional human being. Therefore I wasn't surprised when I got hired. This might be because the entrance exam (medical terminology) and training period are talked about as being a much bigger filter for employees that they find suitable. I haven't started yet, so I can't talk to exam or training difficulty.

How long does it take for them to pay for training hours? Also, do they complete a direct deposit in your account?

October 12, 2017

It has been several months and I have still not received any pay for the 30+ training hours

What is the vacation policy like at ScribeAmerica? How many vacation days do you get per year?

March 14, 2019

Time off must be requested 2 months in advance. There are not paid vacation days but you accrue paid sick time in Massachusetts which I used for vacation days.

Marketing Operations Manager in Austin, TX

Excellent company culture with a ton of advancement opportunities

Working at Scribe has been one of the best professional experiences of my life thus far. I can genuinely say that I have grown more in the past year than I did in the 5 years that I was with my former employer.

To that extent, potential new hires should know that we move at a fast pace and have high expectations. However, that doesn't come at the expense of personal well-being or overall work/life balance. Culture is very much a priority at Scribe, and we truly do put people first. Everyone in the company is extremely supportive and we all help each other achieve our goals (both professionally and personally).

Publishing Manager in Austin, TX

By FAR the best place and the best people I have ever worked with.

It’s hard to explain, but working here is challenging, fun, inspiring, and incredibly fulfilling. I feel trusted, safe, and appreciated for the value that I bring. I can speak openly and honestly. There is no work theater here! I love my job and never get that “ugh I am dreading going to work today” feeling. I love this company and I love doing something that brings me so much happiness.

Coordinator in Austin, TX

High caliber coworkers & amazing company culture

Everyone that works here is fantastic. My direct support is caring, supportive, and inspiring, and I feel compelled to do my best work at Scribe.
The standards are high, we work hard and play hard, are treated like adults and are expected to produce results. All ideas are welcome and you don't have to be an executive to affect change.
I honestly couldn't ask for a better workplace.

People make the difference

Scribe Media is a dynamic and growth-minded organization with great opportunities for personal and professional development.

This is very much a supportive people-first-service-mindset workplace with great company culture.

I truly my work and appreciate my co-workers who are quick to check in, pitch in or listen.

Editor-in-Chief in Remote

Scribe's culture is why we succeed

Scribe's culture is openly documented to anyone who wants to see it, and it is the beating heart of the company. We revise it collectively and regularly. It's why most of us work here. Newcomers are introduced to it, but don't believe it's real until they see it in action -- which they do every day. We hire for culture much more than for skills, and we are very quick to exit people who are not a good culture fit (although they rarely make it in). This is a team of top-performers; you have to bring your A-game every day, but you also will be deeply, deeply supported in your professional and personal development. You will be seen for who you are here.
