2.

Leveling Talent Tree & Build

Your first talent unlocks at Level 10.

2.1.

Affliction Talents from 10-19

Improved Corruption IconImproved Corruption makes your Corruption IconCorruption have no cast time, providing great value. Suppression IconSuppression will help you gain the most important stat, Spell Hit, for a modest talent point investment. It is suggested to put at least 2-3 points into Suppression IconSuppression and no more, as fighting enemies at your level or lower requires very little Spell Hit. Improved Life Tap IconImproved Life Tap is very helpful while leveling, as it provides you with more Mana return from your Life Tap IconLife Tap, resulting in less downtime sitting and drinking to regen your health and Mana.

2.2.

Affliction Talents from 20-29

With the changes to Improved Drain Soul IconImproved Drain Soul, this talent is actually really good for leveling and we dare say is a must have. It provides you with some much needed Mana return, while at the same time Soul Siphon IconSoul Siphon is bringing you really good Health returns on your Drain Life IconDrain Life. Amplify Curse IconAmplify Curse is a strong spell that you should use on cooldown partnered with Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony, making your next Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony extremely strong. Lastly, putting five points into Fel Concentration IconFel Concentration gives you a 70% chance to avoid any pushback on your Drain Life IconDrain Life, allowing you to drain tank successfully.

2.3.

Affliction Talents from 30-39

Putting two points into Improved Curse of Agony IconImproved Curse of Agony increases your Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony damage by 10%. Mix that with Empowered Corruption IconEmpowered Corruption and your DoTs will be hitting very hard. Nightfall IconNightfall is important as it will give you many chances at free Shadow Bolt IconShadow Bolts since it procs off of Corruption IconCorruption and Drain Life IconDrain Life, which are constantly on the target. At Level 39, Siphon Life IconSiphon Life becomes available and with it comes even more damage and decent heath return, leading to your targets dying faster and you needing to sit less and less. Destructive Reach IconDestructive Reach extends the range of your Affliction spells by 6 yards. This gives your enemies 6 more yards to reach you.

2.4.

Affliction Talents from 40-49

This is where Affliction starts to really take off. Shadow Mastery IconShadow Mastery and Contagion IconContagion both provide you with a massive damage boost to your most important DoTs, meanwhile Dark Pact IconDark Pact gives you an insane boost to your Mana regen, allowing you to take your pets Mana.

2.5.

Affliction Talents from 50-59

The new Warlock spell Unstable Affliction IconUnstable Affliction will provide you with a massive power boost, giving you a new and quite powerful DoT to keep up on your target. Next, we suggest that you put one point into Shadow Embrace IconShadow Embrace. While at first glance this looks like it would not help much, and you are right, the bonus from the talent does not help you much, however it counts as an Affliction effect, meaning you get 4% more healing from your Soul Siphon IconSoul Siphon talent. If you are playing on a PvP Server and expect to see some PvP action, then it is also suggested that you put a point into Curse of Exhaustion IconCurse of Exhaustion, as it can really help with slowing enemies down. After that, put both points into Improved Howl of Terror IconImproved Howl of Terror, which will make your Howl of Terror IconHowl of Terror instant cast, making you much harder to kill. Lastly, it is time to put the rest of your points into Demonology, picking up Demonic Embrace IconDemonic Embrace, which will provide you with a huge boost to your Stamina.

As you imagined, it is suggested to put the remainder of your points into Demonology for the utility. Improved Healthstone IconImproved Healthstone helps when you need that instant health return from your Create Healthstone IconCreate Healthstone. Both Fel Stamina IconFel Stamina and Fel Intellect IconFel Intellect will provide you with 3% more maximum Mana and health, leading to even less downtime to recover both resources. Demonic Aegis IconDemonic Aegis is a very powerful talent that is a must with pretty much any build. This greatly buffs your Fel Armor IconFel Armor, resulting in 26% increased healing(rather than 20%) and 130 Spell Power(rather than 100). Lastly, to round it all up, Fel Domination IconFel Domination allows to summon a new demon in pretty much half the time and it costs half the Mana. This is very good if you ever need to quickly get another pet out.

There are two suggested builds for Affliction Warlocks to choose from. Which you choose will depend largely on your playstyle, as well as your current Gear. The first build is the Unstable Affliction build. The second build is the SM/DS build, which utilizes Demonic Sacrifice IconDemonic Sacrifice to sacriice your demon for Health regen or more damage. It is widely suggested for those with weaker gear to go with the Unstable Affiction build to allow Unstable Affliction IconUnstable Affliction to help carry your damage and other talents like Contagion IconContagion to boost your Corruption IconCorruption and Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony, while your demon feeds you Mana with Dark Pact IconDark Pact.

3.1.

Unstable Affliction Build

3.1.1.

Unstable Affliction Leveling Rotation 10-49

  1. Send your demon to attack your target.
  2. Immolate IconImmolate is only used if you can afford the Mana and also only until you get Unstable Affliction IconUnstable Affliction at level 50.
  3. Corruption IconCorruption
  4. Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony
  5. Siphon Life IconSiphon Life
  6. Howl of Terror IconHowl of Terror and Fear IconFear if you are in danger. It is easy for these fears to get out of hand and they can pull many more mobs. Be careful and be ready to use Curse of Recklessness IconCurse of Recklessness on any enemies that look like they are going to pull more.
  7. Drain Life IconDrain Life if you need any Health and, if you do not need health, then Shoot IconShoot your wand.
  8. Drain Soul IconDrain Soul for the killing blow ONLY if you need a Soul Shard or if you need the Mana back from Improved Drain Soul IconImproved Drain Soul.
3.1.2.

Unstable Affliction Leveling 50-70

Nothing drastic changes in your rotation once you hit level 50, you just get to add the new and very powerful DoT Unstable Affliction IconUnstable Affliction. Unlike most of your other DoTs, Unstable Affliction IconUnstable Affliction has a cast time, so you must hold still to cast it. Due to that, it is suggested that you use it as your first cast on the target(s), then continue to put your DoTs up as you have been thus far. Once you get to Level 64, it is suggested that you use Incinerate IconIncinerate instead of Shadow Bolt IconShadow Bolt. Incinerate has less of a cast time, less Mana, and goes well with Immolate IconImmolate.

3.1.3.

Unstable Affliction Leveling Rotation 50-70

  1. Send your demon to attack your target.
  2. Unstable Affliction IconUnstable Affliction as many targets that you are trying to kill. Do this to eliminate pushback once they reach you
4.

Shadow Mastery/Demonic Sacrifice Affliction Build

Move the slider below to make the guide update to your level!

This alternative Affliction build is another very powerful Affliction build that is suggested for anyone who has a some gear to back them up. This build is rather slow starting out at the lower levels, so it is suggested that you respec at or around 60 to the build linked above and then use your extra points while leveling to continue down the Affliction tree, starting at Fel Concentration IconFel Concentration. This build utilizes Shadow Mastery IconShadow Mastery, which exceptionally increases your DoT damage, and then using Demonic Sacrifice IconDemonic Sacrifice to sacrifice either your Summon Voidwalker IconSummon Voidwalker for some insanse health regen, or Summon Succubus IconSummon Succubus for the massive increase to your overall damage. As always, base your Suppression IconSuppression points on your current gear. If you are running this build, it generally means that you have some gear and if there is hit on that gear, do not worry about Suppression IconSuppression. This build is less focused on drain tanking, and more on sustainability, with the goal to go as long as you can without stopping to regen. This build is also less focused on single-targetting enemies down and more about mass pulling as many as you feel comfortable, while easily surviving due to the massive health regen from Demonic Sacrifice IconDemonic Sacrificeing your Summon Voidwalker IconSummon Voidwalker, the tankiness you get from Demonic Embrace IconDemonic Embrace, and of course all the incoming healing from talents like Soul Siphon IconSoul Siphon, Siphon Life IconSiphon Life, and Demonic Aegis IconDemonic Aegis.

4.1.

SM/DS Leveling Rotation 1-60

  1. Send your demon to attack your target.
  2. Immolate IconImmolate is only used if you can afford the Mana.
  3. Siphon Life IconSiphon Life
  4. Corruption IconCorruption
  5. Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony to keep Amplify Curse IconAmplify Curse on cooldown.
4.2.

SM/DS Leveling 60-70

Nothing really at all changes with your rotation, besides the fact that you get to finally Demonic Sacrifice IconDemonic Sacrifice one of your demons. As said above, which you choose will depend largely on your playstyle. You can sacrifice either your Summon Voidwalker IconSummon Voidwalker for some insanse health regen or Summon Succubus IconSummon Succubus for the massive increase to your overall damage. Once you get to Level 64, it is suggested that you use Incinerate IconIncinerate instead of Shadow Bolt IconShadow Bolt if you are looking to burst an enemy down. Incinerate has a shorter cast time, consumes less Mana and goes well with Immolate IconImmolate.

4.3.

SM/DS Leveling Rotation 60-70

  1. Demonic Sacrifice IconDemonic Sacrifice either your Summon Voidwalker IconSummon Voidwalker or your Summon Succubus IconSummon Succubus. Make sure one is always sacrificed.
  2. Immolate IconImmolate is only used if you can afford the Mana.
  3. Siphon Life IconSiphon Life
  4. Corruption IconCorruption
  5. Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony to keep Amplify Curse IconAmplify Curse on cooldown.
  8. Drain Soul IconDrain Soul for the killing blow ONLY if you need a Soul Shard or if you need the Mana from Improved Drain Soul IconImproved Drain Soul.
5.

List of Trainer Skills to Buy

Warlocks do not just have spells to buy, but we also have grimoires. Grimoires are special books that containt certain spell ranks for your demon. For example, to teach your Summon Voidwalker IconSummon Voidwalker to Taunt, you must buy the Taunt grimoire that will then teach your Summon Voidwalker IconSummon Voidwalker how to do it. At first glance, it might seem like there is an endless amount of skills and grimoires to buy. It is only important that you keep the spells and abilites that you use in your rotation at max rank, as well as any utility abilites that you find yourself using. As for the demon grimoires, you do not have to buy them all. Instead, if you are short on Gold, just only keep your leveling demon fully ranked and do not worry about the other demons until your leveling journey is complete. For example, if you decide to go with your Summon Succubus IconSummon Succubus, then only purchase her grimoires as you will not be using the other demons much while leveling.

WoW Classic Affliction Warlock Leveling Talent Build from 1 to 60

Unlike some classes, Warlock has several viable leveling builds that will give you different strengths while leveling. Affliction will be a consistent spec that deals exceptional damage over time while also giving you strong health and mana regeneration through Improved Life Tap IconImproved Life Tap, Improved Drain Soul IconImproved Drain Soul, and Siphon Life IconSiphon Life. Affliction lacks the burst and durability that the other specs provide, but is still quite strong in world PvP early on. This is a great beginner spec if you have not played Warlock before.

3.

Leveling Talent Tree & Build

Your first talent unlocks at Level 10.

  1. Levels 10 to 14 — 5 points in Improved Corruption IconImproved Corruption
  2. Levels 15 & 16 — 2 points in Improved Life Tap IconImproved Life Tap
  3. Levels 17 & 18 — 2 points in Suppression IconSuppression
  4. Level 19 — 1 point in Improved Healthstone IconImproved Healthstone

Improved Corruption IconImproved Corruption is perhaps the only talent that is considered to be critical for every single Warlock build. While 2 points is enough to make the Corruption IconCorruption cast below the GCD, the full 5 points makes it instant, allowing you to Corruption while moving. This is incredibly important both for ease of use and kiting/spacing while leveling. You will be using Life Tap IconLife Tap as your primary method of Mana generation, making Improved Life Tap IconImproved Life Tap a requirement, and then 2 points in Suppression IconSuppression to ensure that enemies your own level will not resist your Affliction spells. These are all critical talents to get as soon as possible, but once you get these you will want to move to the Demonology tree to work towards Improved Voidwalker IconImproved Voidwalker, so you should start with 1 point into Improved Healthstone IconImproved Healthstone.

  1. Level 20 — 1 point in Improved Healthstone IconImproved Healthstone
  2. Levels 21 to 23 — 3 points in Demonic Embrace IconDemonic Embrace
  3. Levels 24 to 26 — 3 points in Improved Voidwalker IconImproved Voidwalker
  4. Levels 27 & 28 — 2 points in Improved Drain Soul IconImproved Drain Soul
  5. Level 29 — 1 point in Amplify Curse IconAmplify Curse

Improved Voidwalker IconImproved Voidwalker is a critical talent if you are using the Voidwalker for leveling, and is worth taking after your initial important Affliction talents. Spend the points to take it, then immediately move back into the Affliction tree. Amplify Curse IconAmplify Curse provides a nice damage cooldown when paired with Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony for harder enemies, and Improved Drain Soul IconImproved Drain Soul gives a nice boost to your passive Mana regeneration when using Drain Soul IconDrain Soul that should cut back on your number of Life Tap IconLife Tap uses.

  1. Levels 30 to 32 — 3 points in Suppression IconSuppression
  2. Levels 33 & 34 — 2 points in Grim Reach IconGrim Reach
  3. Levels 35 & 36 — 2 points in Nightfall IconNightfall
  4. Level 37 — 1 point in Improved Curse of Agony IconImproved Curse of Agony
  5. Level 38 — 1 point in Siphon Life IconSiphon Life
  6. Level 39 — 1 point in Curse of Exhaustion IconCurse of Exhaustion

Start by finishing Suppression IconSuppression for a lower resistance chance, which will help against higher level enemies. Grim Reach IconGrim Reach is nice for the increased range and Nightfall IconNightfall can be a nice damage increase for whenever it procs an instant Shadow Bolt IconShadow Bolt cast. Then you will want to take 1 point in Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony, followed by Siphon Life IconSiphon Life and Curse of Exhaustion IconCurse of Exhaustion. Siphon Life is an amazing DoT to have against enemies that live for most of it, and is also excellent in world PvP. Curse of Exhaustion is also a great tool to have for whenever you need to kite, and is worth the 1 point investment. Some Warlocks choose to opt for earlier points into Improved Curse of Agony instead for the extra damage, but it is up to you whether you want to prioritize damage or better recovery, since these points would need to be taken out of Improved Drain Soul IconImproved Drain Soul.

  1. Levels 40 & 41Improved Curse of Agony IconImproved Curse of Agony
  2. Level 42Improved Curse of Exhaustion IconImproved Curse of Exhaustion
  3. Levels 43 to 47Shadow Mastery IconShadow Mastery
  4. Levels 48 & 49Fel Intellect IconFel Intellect

At this point you will want to finish off Affliction by taking Improved Curse of Agony IconImproved Curse of Agony, 1 point in whatever you want, and then finally getting Shadow Mastery IconShadow Mastery. Shadow Mastery is the final talent you are going for in Affliction, and after taking it you should immediately switch back to Demonology to work towards Fel Domination IconFel Domination. If you want to spend the point, Dark Pact IconDark Pact is useful for a burst of Mana in an emergency, but should not be necessary if you are playing efficiently.

  1. Level 50 — 1 point in Fel Domination IconFel Domination
  2. Levels 51 to 54 — 4 points in Fel Stamina IconFel Stamina
  3. Levels 55 & 56 — 2 points in Master Summoner IconMaster Summoner
  4. Levels 57 to 60 — 4 points in Unholy Power IconUnholy Power

Fel Domination IconFel Domination is perhaps your most important cooldown since it allows you to quickly summon a new Voidwalker if yours dies or if you need to use Sacrifice IconSacrifice. Sacrifice is a powerful defensive cooldown that sacrifices your Voidwalker to put a large shield on you. Normally it is a long cast time to summon another Voidwalker and is unreasonable to do in combat (unless you can Fear IconFear the enemy), but with Fel Domination it becomes easy to get another Voidwalker out. After that you are free to go with what you want, but opting for Fel Stamina IconFel Stamina and Unholy Power IconUnholy Power is a good choice for health and damage. You should pick up Master Summoner IconMaster Summoner as soon as possible though for the same reason as Fel Domination.

Your goal should be to get your Imp and Immolate IconImmolate immediately, which will give you the highest damage output in the game prior to level 10. At level 10 you pick up your Voidwalker from your class quest, and continue with the basic practice of using your DoTs on the target then finishing them off with your wand. Use Life Tap IconLife Tap and Drain Soul IconDrain Soul as needed for Mana regeneration to try and limit downtime. You should immediately start using your wand as a filler in place of Shadow Bolt IconShadow Bolt once you get one, which will most likely be anywhere from levels 10 to 14.

  1. Command your pet to attack the target;
  2. Immolate IconImmolate;
  3. Immolate IconImmolate if you have enough Mana;
  4. Curse of Agony IconCurse of Agony;
  5. Corruption IconCorruption;
  6. Siphon Life IconSiphon Life;
  7. Shadow Bolt IconShadow Bolt.
  8. Shoot IconShoot with your wand;
  9. Drain Soul IconDrain Soul to kill the enemy if you need the Mana from Improved Drain Soul IconImproved Drain Soul or if you need the Soul Shard IconSoul Shard.

Warlocks have one of the strongest starts in the game. Immolate IconImmolate is available for purchase for 10 copper from level 1, meaning you should sell your water and food to get it as soon as possible. From there you can do the Warlock quest from your trainer to get your Imp, which you can easily get by level 2 or 3. With your Imp and Immolate, you should have no trouble wreaking havoc on anything in your path for a few levels.

Do your class quest to get your Voidwalker. At level 10 and beyond your Voidwalker will act as a tank for you, making leveling much safer and more sustainable. You also will have access to its Sacrifice IconSacrifice ability, which is incredibly strong in world PvP.

Siphon Life IconSiphon Life is a powerful DoT that will also give you some sustain. You need to be careful since the combination of the damage and healing is lots of threat, but this is also an excellent spell in world PvP.

9.1.5 Affliction Warlock Mage Tower Overview and Guide! Talents, Tactics and More
Warlock

WoW Classic: Affliction Warlock Guide

Published By MGG

For WoW Classic Patch 1.12, we present the complete guide to the Affliction Warlock spec. Here, we explain Talents, Rotation, Statistics, Equipment and Professions.

The WoW ClassicAffliction Warlock is a master of shadow magic, specialising in curses, life draining and damage over time.

Tier B (PvE) Tier A (PvP)

The Affliction Warlock is a decent caster in PvE and quite good at PvP. Above all, it serves as a support, bringing many curses, healing stones and crowd control in addition to scattered DoTs on a large number of targets. In PvE, it's not among the best DPS and is only represented in one or two slots per raid, the others going to Demonology. In PvP, however, it is found in the backline to inflict multiple curses on all opponents to weaken them before being completed by other DPS and their more direct damage.

Good in both PvE and PvP

DoTs

Mana not an issue

Great at multi-target

Pets

Great team synergy

2 unique "free" class mounts

Limited raid slots

Requires a lot of healing to be at 100% affectiveness

Not very mobile

Required to farm a lot of Soul Shards

Talents

The PvE Shadow Mastery build focuses on applying Corruption to one or more targets in order to take advantage of the Nightfall talent that allows you to generate as many Shadow Bolt procs as possible, dramatically increasing DPS. However, it remains weaker in terms of DPS than Demonology in pure damage, and its gameplay is frustrating if you fail to get Nightfall procs .

This PvP Shadow Mastery builds on the Warlock DoTs while allowing it to generate maximum direct damage once the DoTs are in place using Searing Pain and selected Destruction Tree talents. The idea is clear: DoT everyone and spam Searing Pain .

Editor's note: We do not have in mind the best statistics for the Warlock Affliction of the time, we are working to recover them. Of course, if some of you remember it, do not hesitate to let us know in the comments, we thank you in advance.

Rotation and main skills

Single Target

  1. Keep the curse you have been assigned to the main target permanently,
  2. Maintain (if the buffs limit allows it) Corruption on the target,
  3. Shadow Bolt to fill,
  4. Shadowburn when the target is about to die.
  5. Life Tap when you have little mana left.

Multitarget

  1. Corruption on a maximum of targets,
  2. Curse of agony on a maximum of targets,
  3. Head into melee and use Hellfire.

Ritual of Summoning

The Ritual of Summoning is one of the Warlock's best tools. Although unusable in combat, it saves a lot of time to teleport latecomers directly into the instance or raid.

Stone of healing, resurrection and fire

Major Healthstone, Major Soulstone, Major Firestone

The different stones of the Warlock are of great help to the whole group or the raid. Helping to heal, resurrect an ally or increase fire damage inflicted, respectively, are crucial to any self-respecting raid. However, the Warlock must farm a monumental amount of Soul Shard in order to create them.

Curses

The Warlock's curses are also one of his great strengths as they allow him to increase the DPS of allied casters, reduce the power of opponents or simply inflict damage. Generally, a Warlock is assigned to apply each curse before each raid boss.

Pet

PvE

In PvE, it is always your Impwho should be invoked in order to benefit from the Blood Pact to your group (you will be placed in the Tanks group in raid). If ever the Imp of one of the Warlocks is already present to buff Tanks Group, the Imp is still the best option.

PvP

Against classes that can inflict magic effects (Paladin or Mage for example), always use the Felhunter to take advantage of his Devour Magic skill that should save you more often than not. What's more, it's also the best pet against casters since it allows you to kick them with the Spell Lock.

Against melee classes such as Warrior or Rogue, generally, prefer the Voidwalker for his mighty Sacrifice.

Which race do I play for my Affliction Warlock?

Horde

Undead

The real interest of the Undead, besides his incredible style, is the Will of the Forsaken which is excellent in PvP. Apart from that, Cannibalism is interesting in levelling. The only interest they have in PvE is that they have a base of slightly more points of Intelligence and Spirit than other races.

Orc

The Orc is great in PvE as in PVP thanks to its racial blood Fury, but also Command which is interesting in Warlock (but not in raid). Finally, Hardness gives them a clear advantage over other races in PvP.

Alliance

Gnome

If there is one race to remember, both PvE and PvP, Warlock, this is it. Expansive Mind has no equal even side Horde in PvP as in PvE, Escape Artist is an obvious asset in PvP and, if you follow our trades advice, Engineering Specialization is excellent.

Human

The Human is not as good as the Gnome, but still has two passive assets: his Diplomacy makes grinding easier, and his Perception in PvP to counter your nemisis: the Rogue.

WoW Classic: Race Tier List

World of Warcraft: Classic has a number of races to choose from, and making that choice has long-term consequences. You don't want to regret your choice later, so we've broken down the races in our tier list for WoW: Classic.

Professions

Tailoring

Tailoring is a must-have for the Warlock: it allows you to craft pre-raid armour pieces of unparalleled power, including the Robe of the Void. This is the quintessential profession of the Warlock.

Engineering

The Engineer is the best choice by default as it's great in both PvE and PvP. From Goblin Sapper Charge to the Arcanite Dragonling to the Dense Dynamite, everything about this role will always be useful!

Enchanting

If you do not opt for Engineering, then the Enchanting profession will certainly delight you since it will allow you to make your own enchantments by disenchanting the items you get on the way and in raids/dungeons, but also the ones you make for yourself from Tailoring.

WoW Classic: Profession Tier List

World of Warcraft: Classic has a number of professions to choose from, from crafting armour with Blacksmithing and Leatherworking to farming materials with Herbalism and Minning. With something for everyone, here is our Classic Profession tier list.
